Drug-resistant Biofilms

Nature is inherently composed of diverse microbial biofilms—complex communities where cells interact in unique and often novel ways. These interactions offer valuable insights into ecological niches and microbial behavior. To explore these dynamics, this project leverages the advanced imaging technique of cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). However, due to the thickness of biofilm samples, direct visualization is challenging. To overcome this, we use focused ion beam (FIB) milling to prepare ultra-thin sections suitable for high-resolution tomography. This cutting-edge approach enables a deeper understanding of microbial ecosystems and their intricate cellular interactions.
